Characterising Material
From our perspective, every material has its justification. There are no good or bad materials — they just have to be used in a way that is appropriate to their performance. In particular, this means that the properties of promising new materials must actually be known. Based on scientific and engineering material characterisation, a performance-based design can then be created that meets the requirements and the material.

MaterialsPerformance59 GmbH is focussed on technology readiness levels (TRL) five to nine. This is done to focus on our business area and also to differentiate ourselves from research institutes whose partners we are.
Technology readiness levels are familiar from the aerospace industry and are often used today in the tendering process for research funding programmes. This quickly makes it clear which technological maturity level the start and end points of potential projects should have. In this context, the European Union describes the nine possible TRLs as follows:
